RoH: Hunting with Spirits

Finally the last of the three AoAs for these two for . ; U; Drawing the northern lights is fun. Vast open snow fields are difficult to portray the depth of. And my deer anatomy is derp.

            It was late. The auroras danced across the starry sky above the field Aslan, Sully and their handlers were resting in. Movement at the edge of the field catches Aslan’s attention. His ears perk up as he stares into the dark mass. Eventually a small group of deer nervously flit in and out of the edge of the forest; a prime opportunity to meet the requirements of the final Rite.

            Talc easily entices Aslan to get up for the hunt but the peacefully sleeping Sully only growls angrily at Kai as he tries to wake her. After several more futile attempts, the two handlers settle with the fact that they’ll each have to do a separate hunt.

            Aslan and Talc set off, disappearing from view. Sully decides then to get up but walks in the wrong direction. Kai, frustrated, gets on and tries to steer her in the other direction but she refuses. Finally Sully circles behind a tree and looks back across the snowfield. The two see Aslan and Talc chasing a doe they were able to separate from the herd right towards them.

            Sully decides then – merely out of convenience – that she will participate in the hunt. Kai signals to Talc and she responds by maneuvering Aslan so that they chase the deer to where Sully waited.

            Intrigued by the activities below, a spirit drops down. It weaves in and out of the canopy above before hovering behind Sully and her handler to watch the events unfold.

            Just as Kai seems to become aware of eyes on him, Sully lunges forward to tackle the deer to the ground. In an instant the doe is deceased. Kai stares in front of him, noticing a green glow. He finally looks behind him but there is nothing there, only Aslan approaching from the right. Shaking off the feeling, Kai dismounts Sully to collect the successfully hunted prey. (316 words)
